BURNS NIGHT

People in Scotland (and around the world) celebrate BURNS NIGHT on January the 25th.    



       That day is the birthday of the national poet of Scotland, ROBERT BURNS. He was born on 25 January 1759, and died when he was only 37. He wrote over a hundred poems and songs in his short life.

One of his most famous songs is AULD LANG SYNE.  It is well known in many countries, especially in the English-speaking world; people sing it to celebrate the start of the New Year at midnight on New Year’s Eve. It is also sung at funerals, graduations and as a farewell or ending to other occasions.
